Order Desk Pro - System Requirements


Order Desk Pro is an order entry, order tracking, sales performance analysis and customer database management tool specifically designed for companies that receive orders via direct mail, telephone, and the internet. Order Desk Pro is designed to handle all phases of tracking orders and inquiries, and simplifies the entire order entry and sales tracking process.

Designed with the small to mid-sized operation in mind, Order Desk Pro allows a single person to easily keep track of all orders, inquiries, shipments, ad performance, product demand, daily sales performance, and just about every other aspect of the order taking business. (But it works just as well with multiple users over a standard Win95/98/NT or newer W/2000 or XP network).


System Requirements:

  • Windows 95/98/NT, W2000 or XP
  • Lotus Approach Database software*
  • 32 Mbytes Memory Minimum (64MB recommended)
  • Sufficient Hard Disk Space to Hold Data (assume about 1 Megabyte for each 1000 customers.)


Order Desk Pro is written for the Lotus Approach database engine. If you already have Lotus Approach 97, or the latest SmartSuite 9.7 release (or Lotus Smart Suite 97 or the Millennium Edition 9.7 or 9.8), then you won't need anything else. If you don't have Lotus Approach don't worry! A a copy comes with Order Desk Pro!

Why Lotus Approach?
When we began developing Order Desk Pro, we wanted to build it around an existing database product so we could take advantage of all the features of that program, and avoid the problems associated with developing a new database engine.

We tested several of the top Windows database products including MS Access, Borland/Corel Paradox, Symantec Q&A, Alpha Four, and even the Visual Basic Database Developer. Our testing, as well as testing by others, led us to conclude that there were only two products that come close to doing what we wanted . . . Microsoft Access and Lotus Approach.

Between these two products, Lotus Approach was the clear winner. While both were equally powerful, Lotus Approach was clearly the easiest to use, the fastest on the least powerful machine, and the easiest for non computer experts to master.

Why this is good news for you
With Lotus Approach as the foundation, users of Order Desk Pro gain the full support of IBM and its Lotus Software company. This means that users have access to the Lotus User Support Phone Lines, the Lotus Approach internet user-to-user discussion group, and are eligible for low-cost upgrades to the great Lotus Approach database as they become available.

It also means that modifying Order Desk Pro is a very easy process. No programming is required. With Lotus Approach as the database engine, you simply point and click to create new reports, data fields, label formats, and other enhancements or modifications. You don't need to be a computer expert to do this - it is easy.
