Reinstall problems with 2.11 version

Hi: I scrapped my old W98 machine that ran this version ok and am now attempting to install it on a new Windows XP pro machine.

Approach 97 loaded ok although it gave a warning about possible printing problems. I'm stumped however running the setup for ODP because it asks for a software s/n during the install. I have the order number from Hamilton new media. I have a customer number and a password ... but no software s/n?? Is this a XP requirement? How can I supply it with a s/n I don't have and can't recall being required on W98? What can I do? Is it worth it to install this old program on XP? What does a XP upgrade version cost?
